Creative Arts Jobs

Support these vital talents

ARTS FUNDING

  • Grant government funding for community choirs & arts and writing groups.

  • Grant government arts funding for English Morris Men / Women folk dance groups. Stop the prejudice against Morris Dance Groups as it is English national folk identity dancing as valid as Scottish dancing.

CHILDREN IN THE ARTS

  • Free primary and secondary school classes in playing music (free musical instruments provided whilst in school building), singing and song writing, choirs, drama and creative writing, including poetry, theatre
play-writing, film scripts and song lyrics.

  • Girls equally trained in computer software and hardware, including designing computer games and music computer technology.

  • Free primary and secondary school classes in arts (including art mural painters on the side of buildings, not just tagging text graffiti) and fashion design, sewing, tapestry and embroidery.

  • Free creative careers advice in schools, showing the skills required in the creative jobs, from the tech sector to theatre production.

MUSEUMS AND ART GALLERIES

  • Free entry to museums and public art galleries, so gain more funding from the museum shop and café. Research other means to gain funding.

  • Take steps to widen the reach of the Government Art Collection.

SOLVE THE INSECURE WORK
FOR PERFORMERS

  • Once upon a time, music bands got survival money by signing on every fortnight as unemployed, amongst the sparse work of occasional gigs. This even had a Cockney Rhyming slang phrase of Rock and Roll, the Dole.

  • Revert to do that for actors and music bands, til they become famous.

HOW MUSIC BANDS GAIN INCOME
FROM STREAMING VIDEO?

  • Work with musicians and the digital services that profit from their work, to review the way that innovators and artists are rewarded for their work in this digital age.

COPYRIGHT REFORM

  • Protect independent artists, musicians and other creators, from large companies that currently abuse copyright law to make massive profits from the work of artists without paying them a penny.

SMALL MUSIC VENUES

  • Extend £1,000 pub relief business rates scheme to small music venues.

  • Introduce an ‘agent of change’ principle in planning law, to ensure new housing can co-exist with existing music venues.

SMALL MUSIC VENUES AND THEATRES

  • Introduce Cultural Capital Fund to help bring back these sectors and jobs. Administered by the Arts Council, the fund would be available over a ten-year period.

BRING FILM INDUSTRY TO UK

  • Promote Bollywood films to be made in UK, with 25 per cent of costs spent on filming activities in UK. Work towards them being shown in major UK cinemas.
