Motorists

Be Motorist Friendly

LOWER COSTS FOR MOTORISTS

  • Support British designed and built ultra-low emission vehicles, using British green steel. Especially for lowest priced small cars.

  • End London's Congestion and Ultra Low Zone (ULEZ) Charge and Birmingham’s CAZ (clean air zone).

  • End Speed Cameras.

  • Free and more council car parks

  • No on-street car parking charges

  • Cut petrol and diesel Fuel Duty by 10p a litre and VAT to 10 per cent, from 2nd year of From Infants to Over 50s party government.

  • Government to directly manufacture green e-fuel and sell cheaply, without taxation, direct to public, using current petrol stations.  See end of this page for more detail.

  • Have E5 and E10 petrol the same price.

  • Lower Premium Tax, so car insurance is more affordable, to 1994 rate of 2.5 per cent. With no higher rate, as in 1994, that includes travel insurance (that has within it medical insurance when abroad).

BETTER DESIGNED ROADS

  •  Use Road Traffic Accident Investigators, RAC, AA, Green Flag, and other accident prevention bodies like Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and Road Safety Foundation, to research better road design, to progress to lower motorist deaths.

  • Not only fill in potholes, but resurface roads. Research using recycled plastics in making the tarmac. All roads, not just motorways and A-roads, including rural lanes.

  • End Smart Motorways and bring back hard shoulder wide enough to fully open driver's car, van or lorry doors safely, when vehicle breaks down.

DISABLED BLUE BADGE HOLDERS

  • Free car tax for all with UK disabled blue parking badges.

  • More disabled 24-hour free parking bays in village hubs, towns and cities.

  • Free parking everywhere for holders of disabled blue badges.

  • Not fine drivers with disability benefit and / or blue disabled parking badges, for accessing disability parking bays through bus lanes.

ELECTRIC CAR BATTERY
FACTORIES IN ENGLAND AND WALES

  • Build three new, state-owned gigafactories, of 30,000 jobs in each plant, to build electric car batteries in Potteries (Stoke on Trent), Croydon (south London) and South Wales.

  • Nationalise the Tory / Labour policy private electric car battery factory intended for Bury, Greater Manchester.

          • Background (2022)
The Tory government’s Automotive Transformation Fund will invest alongside
asset management company Abrdn and its majority-owned property investment arm, Tritax, to fund a sale and leaseback deal for the huge building that will house the electric car battery factory, near Blyth in Northumberland."...
 (Northeast England).
..."The plant will employ about 3,000 workers when it is at full capacity in around 2028.
The first batteries are scheduled to start production in 2024."...

GOVERNMENT COMPANY CARS

  • 100 per cent of the government fleet to be green new fuel by 2026, which is around 70,000 new vehicles.

ELECTRIC CHARGING POINTS

  • Invest in more and swiftest electric vehicle chargers. Self generating electric power, so free electricity.

  • Invest £3.6 billion into building state owned charging network.

  • Require all petrol stations to have swiftest electric car battery chargers, self generating the power from solar / small wind turbines (not propellor ones) on their supermarket / forecourt roofs.

  • For company fleets that transition to some Electric Vehicles, pledge to install charging stations in their workplaces and depots.

RECYCLING CAR BATTERIES
  • Invest £500 million in four state-owned metal reprocessing plants to reprocess / recycle cobalt and minerals used in batteries.

  • Invest £50 million in state owned
drop-off points and battery collections sites.

FOR HYBRID CARS, VANS and 4x4s

  • Require all petrol stations to stock green
    e-fuel for current motor engines.

COMPANY CAR TAXES

  • End tax on parking your car, motorcycle or bicycle at work.

  • On private fleets (that make up half of all new vehicle purchases) put waiver on the excise duty surcharge for electric and hybrid electric and green fuel company cars and vans.

  • 1 per cent company car tax for fully electric company cars (back to Benefit in Kind (BiK) rate for 2021-2022 tax year).

BENEFIT IN KIND TAXES FOR DRIVERS
  • As basic income tax falls to 10p in the Pound from 20p in the Pound, less BiK to pay by employee using company car.

  • Lower BiK to 5 per cent for green fuel or plug-in hybrid company cars that can cover between 30 and 39 miles on electric power alone; from current rate of drivers paying BiK at 10 per cent (2022-2023 rates).

  • Lower to 3 per cent for those that can go even further (40-49 miles), as driver now pays  6 per cent BiK (2022).

  • Either way, it’s far less than the 20 per cent-or-more rates that apply to petrol and diesel cars.

LEGACY FOSSIL FUEL OR GREEN E-FUEL CARS

  • Lower entitlement to historic vehicle car tax exemption, to cars over 25 years old instead of 40 years.

  • Motorists with old vehicles and classic cars will continue to have petrol / diesel or the new green fuel provided.
    • Veteran cars are those built before 1919.
    • Vintage cars were built between 1919 and 1930.
    • Post-Vintage Cars were built between 1930 and 1945.
    • Classic car is defined by HMRC (the tax man) as being over 15 years old (built after 1946).

GREEN E-FUEL

GREEN FUEL MADE BY GOVERNMENT FOR CURRENT MOTOR VEHICLES

  • What is green e-fuel synethetic fuel ..."synthetic gasoline (petrol), produced through a reaction between hydrogen, created using electrolysis powered by renewables, and carbon monoxide ... carbon oxides through direct carbon capture, plucking it out of the atmosphere."...

BACKGROUND From Porsche car makers ..."eFuels, which enable nearly-carbon-neutral operation of combustion engines. In their fundamental properties, they are no different than kerosene, diesel or petrol produced from crude oil."..."factor currently existing vehicles into the decarbonisation effort as well and operate them as close to net carbon neutral as possible. Worldwide, there are roughly 1.3 billion vehicles with combustion engines and our vehicles in particular are known for their longevity."... "wind energy to produce eFuels"..."eFuels could also be used in the aviation sector, shipping or even the chemical industry. The key here is implementation on an industrial scale."...

FROM F1 RACING CARS
And racing F1 cars in 2026 ..."So, when competitors hit ... track in 2026, their engines will be burning 100% synthetic fuel, which, it is hoped, will be more or less fully sustainable; Formula 1’s emissions won’t have just peaked, they’ll have disappeared overnight."...
